Services Held For A. Bernau, 87, Whittemore

WHITTEMORE - August Bernau, 87, a Whittemore resident for the past eight years, died Feb. 18 at the Kossuth County Hospital after a short illness.

Funeral services for August Carl Bernau were held last Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Cleo Kautsch officating. Interment was in the Lutheran Cemetery, with Geilenfeld-Schaaf-McCullough Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bernau was born Dec. 15. 1886 in DeSoto, Ia., the son of William and Wilhelmina Ball Bernau. He was married to Marie Van Buren March 27, 1910 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Waterloo, Ill. And moved to Kossuth county in 1920. The couple farmed and moved into Whittemore eight years ago.

Pallbearers were all grandsons; Gary Bernau, Vincent Bolte, Paul Bernau, Roger Boyken, Roger Faulstick and Marvin Bernau.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters and four sons: Emily Bernau, Waterloo, Ill.; Ida, Mrs. Victor Faulstich, Emmetsburg; August Bernau, Jr., Burt; Roland, West Bend; Ernest, Fountain, Minn.; and Otto, Emmons, Minn.

There are 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Mr. Bernau was preceded in death by one daughter, five sisters and one brother.
