Ruff

Charles Ruff, an old resident of Wartburg, died at his residence last week after an illness of many months. Mr. Ruff was born in Germany. He came to America in 1849 and went direct to Wartburg where he resided continually since.

In 1851 he was married to Miss Christine Erfmeier. To this union nine children were born, four of whom are living. They are, Mrs. Jacob Van Buren, Mrs. Fred Johanning, Mrs. Fred Kohlmeier, and Mrs. Wm. Schmieding.

Mr. Ruff was one of our best farmers and acquired a competency. He was supervisor in his district for a term or more, and made a good official.  He was a strong church member, and one of the founders of the Lutheran church in Wartburg. His funeral was largely attended, and the funeral ceremonies conducted by Rev. Pieper were very impressive.
